Eligibility
How To Enroll?We offer clinic-based services to families who live within a specified distance of one of our treatment centers. Contact a treatment center to determine if clinic-based services are available in your area.
Criteria
We currently provide clinic-based service for:
- Children who are up to 48 months of age at intake and who display developmental delays in one or more of the following areas: cognitive performance, language development, social skills, self-help skills, and/or other behavioral functioning.
- Children between 48 and 60 months of age at intake who obtain a score of 50 or above on the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-Revised (WPPSI-R) or on the Stanford-Binet Scales of Intelligence.
Children who are older may still qualify for consultative services.
Please note: We do not have personnel qualified to teach children diagnosed with any additional major medical conditions such as blindness, significant hearing loss, uncontrolled seizures, Rett's Disorder and/or severe delays in motor development. Occasionally, we do accept such children and work closely with other professionals or specialists to ensure that all of your child's needs are addressed.
How To Enroll
To apply for clinic-based services, PLEASE MAIL:*
A psychological evaluation including your child's diagnosis information, and
Results and all scores including composite for the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales.
If necessary, a recent medical evaluation may be requested for additional information.

For children under 48 months of age at intake, we require all scores and results including developmental age for the Bayley Scales of Infant Development: Second edition.
For children over 48 months of age at intake, we require all scores and results including composite scores for either the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-Revised (WPPSI-R) or the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale.
Contact the Lovaas Institute's intake coordinator if you are having difficulty obtaining the required tests.
What to expect
After this information is received, we will contact you to schedule a telephone interview. After that, your child's information will be reviewed for approval into the program. If your child meets eligibility criteria, you will be assigned a supervisor and given an estimated date for the start of treatment. Assignment of the start date will be dependent upon the staff availability at your local Lovaas Institute office at the time you have completed the intake/approval process, as well as receipt of a signed contract by you or a funding agency.
Due to location and staff availability, we can only accept a limited number of children into our clinic-based services. However, we do offer consultation services to those families unable to take part in the Lovaas Institute's clinic-based behavioral intervention program.
